Mambrillas de Lara is a locality and a municipality located in the province of Burgos, autonomous community of Castilla y León (Spain), district of the lawsuit, judicial party of Salas de los Infantes, head of the town hall of its name.
Geography: It has an area of 34.03 km² with a population of 60 inhabitants (INE 2007) and a density of 1.76 hab/km² and whose name is Jamoyero, RA.
Locations: Cubillejo de Lara, Mambrillas and Quintanilla de las Viñas.
History:
The name of Mambrillas comes from Mambligas, diminutive of Mamblas (in relation to the nearby mountains of identical name), which comes from the Latin "mamules", or breasts of woman. Mambrillas, linked to the Alfoz de Lara, has its moment of maximum splendor at the end of the medieval world. In 1186 several nobles make delivery of some of its properties in this villa at the same monastery. This locality village was always linked to the "civitas" of Lara, because although it does not appear in the calf of the Behetrías, in 1459 the neighbors participate in the process that will lead to the promulgation of the "Ordinances of the Villa of Lara and its land". In the year 1587 figure collected as "Mambligas".
In this region are set the epic traditions of our medieval literature such as the poem of Fernán González and the legend of the seven infants of Lara.
You can still appreciate its constructions of popular architecture, such as the typical mountain chimneys, their kilns and the mill (in operation until the middle of the last century), and of course the Catholic Church dedicated to the patron of the town, San Juan Baptist
Art:
It is worth highlighting the church of San Juan Bautista, built in masonry and composed of a single nave organized in three sections, two of them covered with vaults of tercerons. The whole of the factory is of Gothic forms-last decades of the 15th century or the first of the XVI-, although it is appreciated that the first section sank and arose later. It has a large altarpiece in Polychrome Wood, located in the apse, which consists of bench, two bodies and two grooves. It matters especially the set of paintings of the Bank (four) and one in each one of the bodies staging four saints, of decapitation of Saint John and the Adoration of the Magi. These paintings belong to the school Castilian-Flemish and may have been made by important artists of his time.
Festivities and
Leisure: The patron saint festivities are on June 24th, San Juan Bautista, who moves to the nearest weekend.
The festivity of San Roque is celebrated on August 16th.
On September 8th, the traditional pilgrimage of the Virgen de Mamblas is celebrated, in which the residents of Mambrillas, Mecerreyes and Covarrubias attend the hermitage of Mamblas, located at the peak of the Mambla in the municipal district of Covarrubias.
On January 20, San Sebastián, the meeting of the Homonymous brotherhood is organized, celebrating a mass in memory of the deceased during the previous year.
In the month of December is celebrated the traditional feast of the slaughter of pork with tasting of typical products.
During the month of August is recorded the massive influx of holidaymakers, mostly family and people of the village that in the years 60 had to emigrate to the capital Burgos and the provinces bordering, and that make the population of Mambrillas of Lara can reach R the 400 inhabitants.
